The grandchildren of Portuguese citizens are entitled to their original Portuguese nationality, without the need for proof of connection, with the exception of sufficient knowledge of the Portuguese language. This means that, after obtaining nationality, these grandchildren will be able to pass on Portuguese nationality to their family, namely spouses and children, without a generational limit. The grandchildren or great-grandchildren of Portuguese who obtained Portuguese nationality by naturalization have, since June 2017, the possibility of requesting the “convolution” of their nationality in attribution and thus passing it on to their descendants.
